The Schooner Bowdoin was spotted by our ever-vigilant ad rep Lynn Whitney from her perch on the Thorofare this weekend. Bowdowin is the official vessel of the State of Maine, and the flagship of Maine Maritime Academy’s Vessel Operations and Technology program. Designed by William H. Hand, Jr under the direction of explorer Donald B. Macmillan, the Bowdoin was built in 1921 in East Boothbay, Maine at Hodgdon Brothers Shipyard. Bowdoin is the smallest vessel designed expressly for Arctic work, but also one of the strongest.
