May: Southern tip of Snug Harbor

Site of the best Fourth of July fireworks displays

It’s the southern tip of Snug Harbor in South Kingstown, R.I. The photo is looking east from the area of Cap’n Jack’s Restaurant in East Matunuck. Snug Harbor is to the left, the host of one of the most famous tuna tournaments in southern New England. To the right is the northern tip of Jerusalem, which is across from Galilee, the home of the largest fishing fleet in Rhode Island.

The tidal flats in the foreground host one of the best fireworks displays from a barge every 4th of July. The marina is Channel Marina, in Wakefield, which is owned by Dick Goodwin. It is also one of my favorite places to view the fireworks after the Snug Harbor parade.
