John H. Burman, 68, of East Sandwich, Mass., passed away at his home on March 3, 2023, after complications from a tick-borne illness during which he remained at home in the loving care of his family.
John, a third generation Cape Codder, graduated from Barnstable High School in 1972 and attended an experimental program at UMass Amherst. John mentored students at Penikese Island and was Operations Manager for Kingman Yacht Center in Cataumet for 38 years. John could be found sailing the waters of the U.S. East Coast, in his beloved sailboat CH’I, which he built himself and modeled after Joshua Slocum’s Spray. He served for 15 years on the board of the Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown and was always taking his own unique individual steps to protect and conserve the environment.
John’s memory will remain in the hearts of many family and friends.
