Barrington, R.I.
The lifelong Rhode Islander passed away on April 4. She was a physical education teacher and coach, spending the majority of her career at The Wheeler School in Providence. As a longtime member of the Barrington Yacht Club, she served on the board of governors as membership chairman and secretary. She was the club historian, and was also active on both the race and social committees. As club historian she was the author of the Barrington Yacht Club centennial book in 2008.
Jean was one of the founders of the Women Teaching Women sailing program. Jean loved being out on Narragansett Bay, and because of her commitment to, and involvement with, the Barrington Yacht Club, and dedication to developing the local sailing community, she was a recipient of both the Isaac B. Merriman Memorial Award and the Dorothy Anne Healey Trophy.
