Graduation ceremony, island style

The Vinalhaven High School class of 2020, in conjunction with the “traditional” (and extremely limited) graduation ceremony on Saturday,  held a lobster boat ceremony the next day to cap off a weekend of celebrations. Organized by the staff graduation committee, the lobster boat ceremony included a speech by their 8th grade science teacher Emily Cohn as well as a reading by their kindergarten teacher Cherie Doughty, who read from a children’s book: a follow up to The Little Engine That Could. There were some great new traditions started like messages in a bottle cast out to sea and a few unexpected leaps into the water themselves. It was a really excellent time.
