Gérard Bosse passed away on July 19 after a short and cruel disease. Initially, Gérard was a Laser sailor, but back pain early on led him to become a sailing coach. In 1977 he was named director of a national structure for young sailors, allowing them to combine secondary school courses and high-level sailing at La Baule, south Britanny.
For 30 years, Gérard was an instructor for hundreds of young sailors in charge of organizing their sailing careers and studies. He was also a distinguished International Judge and Umpire, officiating at the Olympic Games and America’s Cup. Gérard was revered and admired, not only in France but throughout the world of race officials and competitors, especially those involved in match racing.
Gérard was a prominent figure in the Fédération Française de Voile, also serving as President of the Jury of Appeal and Technical Executive Director. He was the symbol of competence and human capacity and had a positive impact on those he encountered. He was known throughout the sport for his good humor and desire to share his experience of refereeing at the highest level with up-and-coming officials. Gérard has trained and supported many FFVoile referees in their careers and leaves a long-lasting legacy within sailing.
