Donald R. Kidd, Sr., 74

Portsmouth, R.I.

Donald passed away at home with family and friends at his side on Aug. 17, 2018. He was the husband of Ann (Sullivan) Kidd, his “Honey.” Born on Sept. 14, 1943, in Fall River, Mass., Donald was the son of the late Thomas W. Kidd, Jr. and the late Dorothy (McMann) Kidd.

Donald proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964, with much of this time spent in Germany, a country he loved. Donald’s true passion in life was boating. He was the owner and operator of Pirate Cove Marina in Portsmouth, which was founded by his father in 1967.

He became one of the largest J/Boat dealers in the company’s history. Donald was an avid sailor/racer who won many races throughout New England. Ultimately, however, Donald’s passion turned to power boating, cruising extensively from Northeast Harbor, Maine to Key West, Florida, the Bahamas, and many ports in between.

In retirement, Donald, along with Ann and his “second mate,” Buddy the cat, spent winters in Jupiter, Florida, and continued to enjoy New England summers.
