On May 25 the Masthead Cove Yacht Club (www.mastheadcoveyc.org), an informal “paper” club of about 80 families/couples based in Huntington, N.Y., organized a tribute for COVID-19 first-responders. They descended on the western tip of Sand City Island and arranged themselves in the shape of a heart, all flying pink-and-blue streamers under their burgees. Twenty-eight boats participated in spite of raw temperatures, and it being a holiday. During the year, the club does several charitable events to benefit local causes including cancer research and special-need athletes. The club plans to resume these activities once social distancing protocols are lifted.
