North Kingstown, R.I.
Barry E. Hoffman died peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018. He was the husband of Diane E. (Eckman) Hoffman, his wife of 45 years. Born in Morristown, N.J., he was the son of the late Perry A. Hoffman and Beatrice (Everett) Hoffman.
Barry was an international 747 captain with Trans World Airlines for 32 years until his retirement. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. An avid sailor, Barry moved to North Kingstown with Diane in 1982 in part to be closer to the water. They fully embraced their new community. Barry was a former commodore of the Wickford Yacht Club in Wickford, R.I., served as Treasurer of FISH (Friends in Service to Humanity), and volunteered for many local organizations such as Meals on Wheels and LINKS (Laymen in North Kingstown Schools).
Barry was generous, personable and gregarious, and enjoyed the finer things in life. He was an intrepid world traveler, a whiz at “The New York Times” crossword puzzle, and a die-hard Red Sox fan. He and Diane shared a love of music from Barbershop to Broadway to Baroque and were long-time donors to the Handel and Haydn Society in Boston. And finally, he was a member in good standing of Sam’s Club.
