Anne Margaret (Donnelly) Lombardi, 98

Beverly, Mass.

Anne passed away peacefully Feb. 25 after a short illness. Born in Quincy, she was the daughter of the late Hugh F. Donnelly and Eva (Morrison) Donnelly. She was the loving wife of 49 years of the late Nicholas W. Lombardi. A former resident of Providence and West Warwick, R.I., Wilbraham and Seekonk and Cove Cay in Clearwater, Fla., Anne was born into a Naval and seafaring family, and upon her graduation from Quincy High School she attained drafting skills in a special night program at Harvard. While her brother, Hugh, served in the Navy during World War II and her brother, Elmer, served in the Merchant Marines, she became a draftswoman at Fore River Shipyard during and after World War II. She was very proud of having worked on the blueprints for the Liberty Ships that were being constructed, largely by women, and lasted long past their expected five-year life span. These ships and the women who worked on them contributed immensely to the war effort and characteristically Anne downplayed the importance of her role in that achievement. She is survived by her son, Stephen, her daughter, Marian, and her son, Hugh. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren and six beautiful great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her wonderful niece, Nancy.
