Fall in the Fox Island Thorofare

rebecca10-21-15 Calm but crisp fall day on the Fox Island T’fare. As  I headed by whaler to pick up the mail in North Haven, I was fortunate to cross wakes with this lovely vessel, Rebecca of Vineyard Haven. A couple of warmly clad men in the cockpit appeared to be a delivery crew, so as I was shooting photos I asked where they were delivering her to.  Their reply was, “Oh, we’re just out for a fall cruise” as a woman poked her head up the companionway. That evening, I shared the picture with my husband who, knowing her history commented, “She’s a Gannon and Benjamin.”

The coolest part was that several days later, with brisk SW wind and rain, they tack their way up through the narrowing channel in fine form. No need to drop sails and rely on the iron lung to traverse the t’fare in inclement weather. It was a lovely sight to behold and a great way to end the season! That picture has been happily filed away in my mind’s eye! Pure, focused and captured fond memory.

PS Perhaps owners, Brian and Pamela Malcolm of Peebleshire, Scotland were not put off by a little rain, but enjoyed the strong wind allowing Rebecca of Vineyard Haven to kick up her heels!  http://vineyardgazette.com/news/2001/05/11/she-rebecca-island-christens-new-schooner?k=vg562fa99c4b55c&r=1
