It was a two lab evening at Power’s Beach on Cape Rosier. The tide was a low drainer which meant a long soggy walk to toss sticks for Otis while Zeke waded nearby, avoiding the direct line of action.
At the roadside a daysailer sat on a lightweight trailer just itching to get in the water. Up drove a bright red little car with Colorado plates, American flag, a Bernie sticker and a great big smile behind the wheel. It was that Wayfarer’s lucky afternoon, since Gus was done for the day at a local farm and raring to get out on the water.
He’d arrived on Cape Rosier with his dad’s boat from Vermont. The rationale being, “I’d get a lot more use of it here than he would back in Vermont.” And if this early evening is any indication, there will be many hours of pleasure ahead.
Gus made short work of stepping the mast and rigging Toss ‘N Turn before trundling down the beach to the water’s edge. Of course the labs were there to help and oversee the whole operation. It was an energetic row out the shelf-like beach with an on-shore breeze and incoming tide. But the payoff came as the mainsail was raised, a toss n turn filled the sail and off they went. A boy and his boat bringing a smile to a gal and her labs.
