We are not going too far from our dockage in New London because marine fuel is so expensive, $5.99.9/gal. Fortunately we do know some good spots that are productive for us that are nearby.
The seas were calm in the AM, sunny and hot. We fished in water 35′-70′ deep. The most productive depth was around 40′
Later in the afternoon we were boarded by the Coast Guard for a mandatory safety inspection. During the inspection Peg kept her line in the water. She landed a short Fluke 17″ and threw it back. The young CG didn’t know about that rule. Shortly later she pulled in a 21″ keeper. That really impressed them! We took a little break from life jackets and fire extinguishers so I could net it for her. That’s going to be Sunday dinner for us.
Seas calm to 1′-2′ later. A lot of boat traffic for the long holiday weekend
Depth 35′-70′ best at 40′
Bait: Fluke belly strips, squid strips, minnows on homemade Fluke rigs
Sinkers 5-6 oz.
