Cataumet, Mass.
Mark Chase passed away on June 11, 2023 at home surrounded by family. He was the husband of Anne (Turner) Chase. Born in New Bedford, Mass., he was the son of the late Donald and Jacqueline (Key) Chase. Mark was a loving husband, father and “grampa” who devoted his life to his family.
He grew up in Mattapoisett, where his love for life on the water began and where he would meet Anne. Anne moved to Mattapoisett to pursue teaching and met Mark while out for a walk. Mark and Anne eventually settled in Cataumet, where they raised their two children, Abigail and Nathaniel. Mark’s love for his family was undeniable and unconditional. He spent countless hours coaching Abigail and Nathaniel in sports, attending games and activities, camping with his family, and, of course, boating to Bassetts Island. He and Anne most enjoyed their evening “toots” around Bassetts, and Friday nights at Parker’s Boat Yard.
Mark worked for Parker’s Boat Yard for over 40 years. Parker’s was not only a place of work, but a second home for Mark and his family. Mark brought his knowledge of engines and sailing to Parker’s in 1978. He was an amazingly talented mechanic, practical in his approach and willing to share his wisdom and experience with everyone. He loved to mentor young people entering the industry and left them wiser about boating and life.
Mark was a faithful friend, always ready to help others. Mark enjoyed his boat, Junius, and driving his Mustang. He will always be remembered for his pride and love for his family, the joy of his life. He will be missed by all who knew him.
