Amesbury, Mass.
Peter was born to George and Elizabeth Gibb. He attended the University of New Hampshire and Middlebury College where he graduated summa cum laude from in ’76 with degrees in Economics and Biology. Peter had a sharp wit, loved music, poetry, animals of all kinds (especially his dogs), was a talented piano player and loved the Red Sox through good, bad, and downright ugly. Growing up, his family spent their summers at their “Cape House” on Nye’s Cliff in North Falmouth, which founded his strong love of fishing, sailing, and all things boat related.
He worked at National Marine Fisheries in Woods Hole before transitioning to his real passion, wooden boat building. Peter honed his craft at Lowell’s Boat Shop in Amesbury where he worked for close to 20 years. He became a master boat builder having built many classic wooden dories and skiffs. He loved the history of wooden boat building, particularly that of Lowell’s Boat Shop. He dedicated himself to preserving countless plans, forms and records from the boat shop and those now are housed there for the current craftsmen and students. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth, children Emily and Ben, his former wife Betsy and numerous nephews and nieces. Peter was predeceased by his brother, John and sister Sarah.
