Little Harbor Yacht Club, in partnership with Boatwise LLC, is offering a series of boating education classes. This year’s classes are intended as a continuation of last year’s curriculum but are sufficient different that no loss of continuity will occur if you are attending for the first time. We have partnered with Boatwise, LLC to make this available and affordable to all of our members as well as the local boating community outside of the LHYC.   Blue Water Sailing Club is pleased to present, “Heavy Weather Sailing” by popular sailing writer and author Charlie Doane. The program will take place on Saturday, March 10 from 9:15am-12:00pm at the Kittery Point Yacht Club in New Castle, NH. There is no fee, but participants are required to register by March 7, 2018 at www.bluewatersc.org. In addition to general insight and advice, Charlie’s presentation will include a fascinating analysis of the offshore abandonment of the catamaran Be Good Too 300 miles east of Cape Hattaras in January 2014 in which he was personally involved (that is, on board as crew). In 1775, George Washington and the Continental Congress decided to bring their nascent revolution to Canada, expecting that the Canadians would find common cause in the struggle for independence. By 1776 the entire enterprise had collapsed into ruin, and all that stood between the shattered army and annihilation was one hundred miles of lake and a tiny fleet under the command of one of Washington’s most beloved generals, Benedict Arnold. The iconic International One-Design sailboat has been the subject of thousands of remarkable photos in its eight decades of competitive history. Join John Burnham, a past champion and former editor of Sailing World and Cruising World, on a photo tour that traces the history of the class, including John’s personal experience of the last 30 years and the array of extraordinary venues where the boats are sailed. Daniel Forster of Jamestown, R.I., is one of the finest yachting photographers of our time. He has covered every America’s Cup from 1977 to 2017, and a dozen Olympic Games: 1977 to 2016. Forster’s presentation will be nothing short of spectacular, showing images of sailing and the beauty of the sea. It will be every bit as evocative of the last glorious half-century in sailing as were the great Morris Rosenfeld’s photos from the preceding 50 years.
