Alison O’Leary presents “So Close to Home” on the story of the German U-boats

Author Alison O’Leary will discuss her book “So Close to Home,” the true story of a hard working Texas family trying to get a head in the lean post-Depression years and who unknowingly ends up involved in the German U-boat killing spree off the shore of the United States. The book examines the family’s struggle and the U-boat’s race against the American war machine.

O’Leary is a longtime journalist who has worked for newspapers from Austin, Texas to Reno, Nevada; Bath, Maine and suburban Boston. She was a correspondent for the Boston Globe for several years before completing her B.A. at Emerson College and becoming editor of The Boston Parents’ Paper magazine and skirt! Boston magazine.
